ABOUT ME
ABOUT ME
Hi — I’m Chris A. MacKinnon, a novelist based in Prince Edward Island, Canada.
I write stories that start with something familiar—family life, small-town rhythms, everyday routines—and then introduce the moment where reality bends. A secret. A strange doorway. A curse that won’t stay buried. My books sit in that sweet spot where humor and heart can live right beside mystery, suspense, and the supernatural.
I write because I’m drawn to the way families work: the chaos, the loyalty, the inside jokes, the fights that blow over, and the love that doesn’t. I’m especially fascinated by what happens when ordinary people are forced into extraordinary choices—when protecting the people you love means facing what you don’t understand.
Writing lets me explore big questions through page-turning stories:
What do we inherit from the past—whether we want it or not?
What do we do when something “impossible” becomes personal?
How far will we go to protect our own?
If you pick up The Shoeman Curse, Paper Doors, or Where the Shoeman Doors Lead, expect:
family-driven storytelling (the relationships matter)
small-town energy and secrets
suspense that builds fast
supernatural element that feel close to real
moments of humor and warmth amid the tension
When I’m not writing, I’m usually juggling real life, chasing new ideas, and paying attention to the little details that make scenes feel true—how people talk when they’re tired, what they don’t say, and the way a normal day can turn strange in a single moment.
If you enjoy stories where family meets the unexplainable, you’re in the right place.
Thanks for reading — and welcome!
